It is a leasing arrangement where Sierra5 provides a fully operational aircraft — including flight crew, technical maintenance, and insurance coverage — to partner airlines. The lessee airline retains commercial control of the flights, including scheduling, pricing, and branding, while Sierra5 handles the operational side. ACMI agreements can range from short-term seasonal contracts to multi-year partnerships.
While often used interchangeably, ACMI and wet lease have subtle differences. A wet lease typically includes the aircraft, crew, maintenance, and insurance (identical to ACMI), but the term "wet lease" is more commonly used for shorter-term or ad-hoc arrangements. ACMI is the more formal industry term and often implies longer-term, structured agreements.
